The Acropolis, Athens
Ancient Athens and Evia
Despite its size, Evia is little known in the UK, it has wonderful beaches, renowned monuments, thermal springs and tasty food and is, therefore, the perfect base from which to explore Athens and the wider area. Athens was one of the most important and powerful cities in Greece during the Classical period, and it was a centre for art, literature and philosophy, as well as being the first of the Greek city states to develop democracy. Marvel at the abundance of temples dating from antiquity spread casually amongst the modern city.
