Notre Dame de Lorette
Arras and the Somme
Arras is a city that surprises. Largely destroyed during the Great War it was painstakingly reconstructed and today continues to offer some of the grandest squares and architecture in northern Europe. From its bustling markets to vibrant restaurants and remembrance sites both within and near the city there is much to see and do.
Arras • Wellington Quarry • Battlefields of Arras Tour • The Somme • Ypres • Menin Gate
Day 1 Channel crossing to Calais and on to Arras with the rest of the day free to explore the city.
Day 2 Start with a visit to Wellington Quarry for a guided visit and introduction to the Battle of Arras. Following this meet your guide for a tour to the Battlefields of Artois. See Vimy Ridge, the great Canadian Memorial, and French, British and German cemeteries.
Day 3 South to The Somme. We suggest a route including the Historial Museum Peronne, the Lochnagar Crater, Thiepval Memorial, Ulster Tower and Newfoundland Park.
Day 4 Commence the journey home stopping in Ypres en route. This thriving town was devastated during some of the bloodiest battles of 1917 and 1918. See the Menin Gate and stop at Tyne Cot, the largest British War Cemetery, before proceeding to Calais for a Channel crossing home.
