Edinburgh and the Borders
The Borders region stretches from the rolling hills in the west to the secluded coves and fishing villages of the dramatic Berwickshire Coastline in the east. The area's turbulent history created its present day attributes of strong traditions and interesting heritage sites including the famous abbeys at Melrose, Jedburgh and Dryburgh, and Traquair, Scotland's oldest inhabited house. Peebles' proximity to Edinburgh also provides an opportunity to visit the capital City.
Peebles • Edinburgh • Kelso • Dryburgh Abbey • Traquair House • Jedburgh
Day 1 Travel to the hotel in Peebles with a recommended stop at Gretna Green.
Day2 A full day excursion to Edinburgh, Scotland's capital city. With so much to see and do, we recommend independent sightseeing, however visits to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, a residence of the Queen, admission to Edinburgh Castle and a guided tour of the city can all be arranged on request and for an additional charge.
Day 3 Free morning to enjoy the hotel's facilities and visit Peebles. The historic town is full of natural beauty and character with interesting alleyways and medieval closes. It is also regarded as the Top Independent Retailing Town in Scotland. Afternoon visit to Bowhill House, home to many of the jewels of the Buccleuch Collection in the heart of the ancient royal hunting forest of Ettrick.
Day 4 A full day excursion through the borders region. We recommend a visit to Kelso, a charming town with Georgian buildings, cobbled streets and the largest market square in Scotland. Also Dryburgh Abbey, the burial place of Sir Walter Scott, and Jedburgh with its abbey and Mary Queen of Scots House museum. Continue to the Berwick Coast where Berwickshire Sea Cliffs are the highest and grandest along the east coast of mainland Britain. A local guide can be included for an additional charge.
Day 5 Homeward journey.
