Historic Wales and River Tales
Explore the unique history of South Wales and the border region. From the largest castle in Wales to the abbey which inspired Turner and Wordsworth, South Wales and the Wye Valley make for a truly memorable visit. Tours are based on Sunday to Wednesday departures and can be extended with recommended visits to Cardiff and The Royal Mint Visitor Centre.

Day 1 Travel to the hotel in Newport with recommended stops in either Bath or Cheltenham.
Day 2 First stop is Caerphilly, for a visit to the largest castle in Wales. Explore this 13th century sleeping giant before time at leisure in the town, famous for its cheese. Proceed deeper into the Welsh Valleys to the fascinating and highly entertaining Llancaiach Fawr Manor House. If you are lucky you may meet the Master of the House Edward Prichard but if not, the 'servants' of this Tudor Manor House are always on hand to show you around. Return to the hotel passing the striking Guardian Memorial at the site of the Six Bells Colliery.
Day 3 Head first to Caerleon Roman Fortress and Baths where the remains on view provide a vivid picture of life in second-century Roman Britain. On then to Monmouth, still in Wales but only just! A guided tour of the Shirehall, a Grade I listed building will bring its remarkable past to life. This afternoon, travel south through the Wye Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, for an included river cruise at Symonds Yat. Travel back to the hotel via Tintern following in the footsteps of Coleridge, Thackeray, Turner and Wordsworth.
Day 4 Homeward journey.
