Isle of Man
Situated between the coastlines of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, in the middle of the Irish sea is the Isle of Man. Featuring visits to the award winning Manx Ices and Peel Lifeboat Station, we offer a choice of hotels from which to enjoy the rich folklore and unique culture of this popular island.
Manx Ices • Castle Rushen • Steam Railway • Peel • Snaefell • Laxey Wheel • Milntown Gardens
Day 1 Travel to the Isle of Man on an early afternoon crossing from Heysham. Continue to the hotel in the popular town of Douglas.
Day 2 First stop of the day is the Silverdale Glen complex, and award winning Manx Ices. Powered by a refurbished 18th Century waterwheel, learn how historical methods are used in modern day production. Following refreshments, continue south to the ancient capital of Castletown and see the wonderfully preserved Castle Rushen. Time allowing, see the wonderful views around Calf Sound, before arriving in Port Erin, nestling in its scenic bay. From here, step back in time and hop aboard the island's Steam Railway for the journey back to Douglas.
Day 3 Excursion across the scenic centre of the island to the sleepy town of Peel, said to be the best example of a typical Manx town, with its dramatic castle. Enjoy an informative visit to the working Lifeboat Station before dabbling your toes at the beach, or relaxing in one of the cafes. This afternoon, allow free time in Douglas. We recommend a visit to the Manx Museum, or an optional ride on the Snaefell Mountain Railway; a spectacular climb to the island's highest point at 2036ft (admissions not included).
Day 4 First stop today is Laxey for an included visit of 'Lady Isabella', the world's largest working watermill and perhaps the best known image of the island. Continue to Ramsey, the main town to the north of the island, where we include admission to the beautifully maintained Milntown Gardens. Admission to the House or nearby Jurby Transport Museum can be included at an additional cost.
Day 5 Morning crossing back to Heysham for homeward journey.
