Lancashire Hills, Hotpots and History
Based at the historic Mercure Last Drop Village Hotel, this tour includes a visit to The Chocolate House and a tour of Queen Street Mill. In addition, we include a visit to the fascinating Fred Dibnah Heritage Centre along with two traditional British lunches and a cookery demonstration.
Chocolate House • Queen Street Mill • Fred Dibnah Heritage Centre • Bolton • Lancashire Hotpot
Day 1 Travel to the hotel in Lancashire.
Day 2 Travel to Blackburn for a visit to The Chocolate House, well known in the North West for their handmade chocolates and truffles where the only machine used is a traditional mixer. Guests are treated to an informative talk, live demonstration and, of course, plenty of tasters. Continue to Queen Street Mill, the world's only surviving 19th century, steam powered weaving mill situated on the outskirts of Burnley. This time capsule of the late Victorian age brings the textile industry to life. Lunch can be included at either location for an additional charge.
Day 3 The highlight of the tour is a visit to the Fred Dibnah Heritage Centre, housed in the famous steeple jack's previous home. The house has been lovingly restored and much of the machinery in the grounds is just as Fred left it. Afterwards, enjoy a traditional lunch at the Olympus Fish and Chip Restaurant, a firm favourite of visitors to Bolton. Allow free time in the city centre this afternoon to visit Bolton's award winning market offering over 300 stalls with fresh, exotic and local produce.
Day 4 No visit to Lancashire is complete without trying the famous Lancashire Hotpot. The hotel chef will provide a cookery demonstration on local foods before guests sample the famous regional dish for lunch. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the hotel pool or wander around the hotel's village with its antiques, crafts and book shops and traditional inn. Alternatively, travel to the city of Manchester for shopping and sightseeing.
Day 5 Homeward journey.
