From its birthplace close to Switzerland's Oberalp pass the Rhine flows north through pastures and gorges. Watched over by hilltop medieval castles the constant stream of barges are a fascinating sight as they travel along the river. This cruise starts in Amsterdam and continues to Rüdesheim, at the heart of the famous Rhine Gorge, before arrival in Strasbourg.
Amsterdam • Cologne • Rüdesheim and the Rhine Gorge • Strasbourg
Day 1 Cross the Channel, travel into Belgium and on to Amsterdam. Embarkation is in the early evening. After check in enjoy dinner on board.
Day 2 We suggest a morning in Amsterdam and an afternoon excursion to picturesque Volendam.
Day 3 Sail through Nijmegen towards Krefeld. This area became infamous because of its association with Operation Market Garden and the 'Airborne Carpet' of WW2. Cross into Germany near Venlo.
Day 4 From Krefeld continue south through Cologne to Königswinter. One of Germany's oldest cities, Cologne could justify many hours exploration but the Gothic cathedral is a must to see.
Day 5 South from Königswinter to Koblenz, where the Mosel joins the Rhine. Continue through the Rhine Gorge and past the Loreley to arrive in Rüdesheim. After dinner there will be time to explore the town and visit the infamous Drosselgasse.
Day 6 Cruise past Speyer, Mainz and in the afternoon there is the possibility to visit Heidelberg, before enjoying a farewell dinner on board.
Day 7 Disembark in Strasbourg. There will be time to explore before continuing north to the Gent area for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 8 To Calais for a Channel crossing and home.
