Savoie... French Chateau, Lakes and Peaks
The Savoie region, including many of the alps highest peaks, offers some of France's most stunning scenery. It includes the Rhone-Alps and its capital, Chambery, is close to many popular lakes and spa towns. Our Chateau Hotel is in the little spa town of Challes les Eaux. It is a wonderful destination from which to explore the region.
Lake Annecy • Aix-les-Bains • Grenoble • Lyon • French Alps
Day 1 Short Channel crossing and on for dinner and an overnight stay at Reims.
Day 2 South past Dijon and east to Chambery and Challes les Eaux for a 5 night stay.
Day 3 A day of simple pleasures. Explore the historic hotel, relax in the gardens and grounds, visit the local village and enjoy the views onto the surrounding fields and mountains.
Day 4 First stop today in Aix-les-Bains to enjoy a walk on the promenade of Lake Le Bourget with views across the water to Abbaye d'Hautecombe. On then to Annecy, which has an idyllic location on one of the loveliest lakes in the Alps. The historic town centre teams with shops and restaurants and there are glorious views onto the surrounding mountains.
Day 5 A day to Lyon, France's second city, reputed to be the gourmet capital of France. Its large historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It lies at the confluence of the Saône and Rhone rivers and we suggest a guided tour followed by time to explore.
Day 6 Visit Grenoble, often referred to as 'the Capital of the Alps'. See the terraces of Place Saint André, the old Parliament building, stroll along the fountains of Place Grenette and relax in the Place Saint Claire. It is a city that delights and for the adventurous it's possible to travel on the iconic cable car to enjoy views across the rooftops.
Day 7 Begin the journey home, stopping for dinner and an overnight stay at Reims.
Day 8 Channel crossing and home.
