Although not an old city by European standards, Berlin has headed the Kingdom of Prussia, the German Empire, the Weimar Republic and the Third Reich. Following the German defeat in WWI, economic problems allowed Adolf Hitler to rise to power in the 1930s and in 1939 Europe was plunged into WWII, finally resulting in the city's division into East and West by the Berlin Wall, an atmospheric symbol of Cold War hostility.
Modern Berlin has reclaimed its reputation for artistic freedom and cultural excellence and it is once again the nation's capital. A tour in Berlin with our experienced guide will take us on a journey through Berlin's history during WWI and through to the Cold War Period. Students will also find Berlin the perfect place to use and develop their German language skills with opportunities to engage in conversation with native speakers in real life situations, whilst learning about Germany, its history, language and culture. A tailored guided tour in German or a visit to a market could be arranged.
