Day 1Short Channel crossing. Overnight in Lisieux area.
Day 2 Travel westwards to La Rochelle for a 4 night stay.
Day 3 A day at leisure in historic La Rochelle with time to explore the cathedral and the old port area with its many cafés and museum.
Day 4 A day excursion southwards to the pretty Chateau de la Roche-Courbon, to visit the castle and gardens. Continue to the attractive town of Saintes, home to many Roman sites. End the day with a visit to Cognac and include a tour and tasting at a local distillery.
Day 5 Travel to Fouras-les-Bains and take a 1 hour cruise to the imposing Fort Boyard. This structure has had many different uses over the years including as a prison and more recently the setting for a TV show. Continue to the elegant coastal town of Rochefort. With its long naval history, see the impressive Corderie Royal where ropes were made for over 300 years, as well as the many museums dedicated to all aspects of naval history.
Day 6 Depart La Rochelle and travel back into Normandy for dinner and an overnight stay in Lisieux.
Day 7 Travel to Calais and homeward Channel crossing.
