Day 1 Fly to Budapest and transfer to the hotel.
Day 2 After breakfast, take a morning guided tour of the Buda side of the city, situated on the west bank of the Danube. Enjoy panoramic views of the city from the Fishermen's Bastion, named after the Guild of Fishermen who defended the city walls. Its seven towers represent the seven Magyar tribes that settled in the Danube Basin. Note also Budapest Castle, the historic fortified complex of the Hungarian Kings, with its medieval, Baroque and 19th Century houses and public buildings. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 3 After breakfast, there is a guided coach tour of the Pest side of the city, including the Parliament Building, the National Opera, Heroes' Square and the City Park. The afternoon is free at your leisure.
Day 4 After breakfast there is a full day guided tour to the famous Danube Bend. Places of interest include the town of Szentendre, with its Mediterranean atmosphere favoured by many artists. Also, the remains of Roman peel towers at Visegrad and the royal town of Esztergom, the first capital of Hungary and birthplace of the first Hungarian king, St Stephen. While in Esztergom, see the recently restored castle and the Basilica, reputed to be the largest church in the country.
Day 5 After breakfast there is some free time before transferring to the airport for flights to the UK.
