Rome, the Eternal City, is without doubt one the most beautiful cities in the world, attracting millions of visitors from around the world to admire the treasures and masterpieces of Roman art and architecture. With such a density of magnificent buildings, sculptures and artworks in a small area, the best way to explore is on foot, but make sure there is still time to just relax and soak up the atmosphere.

Day 1 Fly to Rome where you are met by your guide and transferred to your city centre hotel.

Day 2 Full day guided walking tour of Rome's archaeological highlights. The morning includes the Roman Forum and the forums of Caesar Augustus and Trajan, the Capitol, the Colosseum and Palatine Hill. After lunch continue to explore the post-Roman highlights of the Piazza Venezia and the Campidoglio amongst others.

Day 3 Morning tour of the Vatican City and St Peter's Basilica. Wander through the galleries of the Vatican Museums, passing breathtaking Roman mosaics, sculptures and spectacular frescoed ceilings before viewing the masterpieces of Botticelli, Perugino, Signorelli, Pinturicchio and Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel. Visit Saint Peter's Square and Bramante's Vatican Basilica. The afternoon is at leisure.

Day 4 This morning, visit Rome's Jewish Quarter, dating back to 139 B.C.. The 'ghetto' is a lively part of the medieval city with narrow streets, Roman remains, ancient homes, aristocratic palaces and a beautiful synagogue and museum. From the old ghetto it's a short walk to the nearby areas of medieval Rome and Piazza Farnese with its fountains and magnificent palace. In the afternoon a walking guided visit to Trastevere, a centuries-old home to artists, poets, and musicians with its splendid historic basilica. In the afternoon transfer to the airport for flight back to the UK.
