Lakes, Fjords, Stave Churches, Glaciers • Norway in a Nutshell • Sognefjell • Geirangerfjord

Day 1 Short Channel crossing. Overnight in Holland.

Day 2 Travel across Germany and into Denmark for dinner and an overnight stay near Kolding.

Day 3 Travel to Hirtshals on Denmark's north coast. Here board the fast-craft for the exciting journey across the Skagerrak Sea to Kristiansand, Norway. From here proceed north, through the wonderful Setesdal to Hovden for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4 North from Hovden to Odda and then travel along the east coast of the Hardangerfjord. This is a fruit growing area and is particularly beautiful when the spring blossom and autumn colours appear. Enjoy views of the fjord and the Folgefonn Glacier before making the climb to Voringfoss, Norway's highest waterfalls. Following a stop here take a ferry across the fjord and then on to Voss for a 2 night stay.

Day 5 A full day at leisure in Voss can be spent exploring the town and relaxing on the long lakeside promenade. We can also arrange the optional full day 'Norway in a Nutshell' excursion to include a trip on the Flåm Railway, with views of some of Norway's wildest scenery, and a wonderful cruise between Gudvangen and Flåm, passing through the Næroyfjord and Aurlandsfjord.

Day 6 An exciting day travelling across the Vik Mountains and descending to the Sognefjord. Cross the fjord and travel on with a possible refreshment stop in Sogndal. In the afternoon proceed on the Sognefjell Mountain Road, the highest mountain pass in Northern Europe and the first road in Norway to gain the 'National Tourist Road' distinction. Shortly after the highest point on the route arrive at our historic mountain hotel at Elveseter for a memorable night in the Sogn Mountains.

Day 7 Depart Elveseter and continue to Geiranger, stopping place for many cruise ships and perhaps one of the most famous villages in the whole of Fjord Country. Here board the fjord ferry cruiser and travel along the world famous Geirangerfjord to Hellesylt, with breath-taking scenery all the way. On from Hellesylt to Loen for a 2 night stay at the Loenfjord Hotel.

Day 8 Explore the panoramic route along the Innfjord, through the small town of Ulvedal to arrive in Lote. Take the ferry across the Nordfjord and then on to Sandane with a possible visit to the Nordfjord Folk Museum. Return to via Olden.

Day 9 Leave Loen and travel via Skei and past the Jostedal Glacier for a possible visit to the Norwegian Glacier Museum at Fjærland. On then to Sogndal and back across the Sognefjord and over the Vik Mountains before ascending to Stalheim for a 2 night stay.
