Day 1 Fly from the UK to Spain. Take a panoramic tour of Valencia before check-in then a walking tour of the historic centre.
Day 2 Morning excursion to Albufera marshland for a short voyage including a visit to a 'barraca' (fisherman’s shack). For lunch a traditional 'paella'. Return to Valencia to the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències, a conglomerate of ultra-modern buildings designed by world famous architect Santiago Calatrava.
Day 3 One of the main fiestas in Valencia is the Fallas, held each year in March. During the year, cultural associations build satirical constructions, which are then burned on St. Joseph’s day. Morning visit to the Museu Faller to see 'pardoned' statues, hear explanations about the making of the figures and see a display of 20th century posters advertising the event. In the afternoon travel back in time, to the medieval era, when Spain was influenced by the continuous struggle between Moors and Christians. This part of Spanish history has shaped the culture, traditions, language, cuisine and architecture of today. The Valencian part of the Mediterranean is where this episode is remembered through local fiestas. The local participants dress up in costumes from both the confronting sides to the enjoyment of the crowds. As with many Spanish fiestas, it is all very spectacular, and comes accompanied by music, food and drink.
