Day 1 Fly from the UK to Rome and transfer to the hotel
Day 2 Visit to the Vatican City, including the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and the Pope’s official private chapel, where papal election conclaves are held. Next we visit the massive structure of St Peter’s Basilica, the largest church in Christendom, built on the site where St. Peter was martyred. Afternoon at leisure.
Day 3 Ancient Rome Panoramic Tour by coach including the Colosseum, Forum & Palatine Hill. Afternoon visit to either the Saint Callixtus or Saint Agnese Catacombs. The Christian catacombs began in the second century and were originally where Christians gathered to celebrate their funeral rites and the anniversaries of the martyrs.
Day 4 Morning Renaissance and Baroque Walking Tour including Piazza Navona, Trevi Fountain and the monument to King Victor Emanuel II. Afternoon for independent sightseeing.
Day 5 Day at leisure in Rome.
Day 6 Journey to Assisi with an en route stop in Orvieto. A visit to the cathedral is highly recommended, one of the greatest Gothic buildings in Italy.
Day 7 Morning guided walking tour of Assisi, well-known largely thanks to St Francis, Italy’s premier saint and founder of the Franciscan order. The Basilica of St Francis is undoubtedly one of the greatest monuments of 13th and 14th century Italian art. Afternoon of independent sightseeing.
Day 8 Transfer to the airport, for our return flight back to the UK.
