The Holy Land... in the Footsteps of Christ

The 'Holy Land' of Israel is sacred to the world's three monotheistic faiths: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Tides of immigration over millennia have ensured the history is both rich and intense and that there are sites of archeological, cultural and religious interest for visitors of every persuasion. A walk through the narrow, cobbled streets of Jerusalem is inspiring, while further afield you can explore the Sea of Galilee, the cities of Tiberias and Jericho, the hilltop fortress of Masada and the caves at Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. Visiting Eilat's Red Sea coral reefs and crossing the border to Jordan and the ancient city of Petra are further options.

Sea of Galilee • Nazareth • Jerusalem • Bethlehem

Day 1 Fly direct from the UK to Tel Aviv. After arrival meet the guide and transfer to your accommodation on the banks of the Sea of Galilee.

Day 2 Ascend the Mount of Beatitudes and enjoy a panoramic view of the Sea of Galilee. Visit 'Peter's Primacy,' the site where Jesus met with His disciples and told Peter to “feed my lambs; feed my sheep.” Enjoy a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee; visit Tabgha, where Jesus fed the 5,000 and see Capernaum, where Jesus began his Galilean ministry.

Day 3 Depart for Cana, where Jesus performed his first miracle at the request of his mother. Here, couples may renew their wedding vows. Move onward to Nazareth, the site of Mary's home and the town of Jesus' childhood. Visit the Basilica of the Annunciation. View Mount Tabor where Jesus was transformed before Peter, James and John. Continue via Bethshean onward to Jericho and the Mount of Temptation.

Day 4 Travel to Bethlehem, visit the Church of the Nativity to commemorate the birth of Jesus and visit the Shepherds Fields. In Jerusalem visit the Pater Noster church and the Church of Ascension at the site where Jesus wept. It is known as Dominus Flevit (Latin for 'The Lord wept'). Walk down the hill along the Palm Sunday route and visit the Garden of Gethsemane and the Church of All Nations.

Day 5 Visit the Western or Wailing Wall of the Temple, the Temple Mount and the Dome of the Rock (Muslim Shrine), and then move on to St. Stephen's Gate and the Church of St. Anne. See the Pool at Bethesda, where Jesus healed; then visit the Shrine at the Ecce Homo Arch and the Convent of the Sisters of Zion. Continue to Dormition Abbey, the Cenacle Church, and the Upper Room, and recall the Last Supper. Stop at Caiaphas' Palace, where Jesus was tried. The site is known as St. Peter in Galicantu ('crowing rooster').

Day 6 Gather at the Antonia Palace to walk the Via Dolorosa, the Way of the Cross, culminating at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the site where Jesus was crucified and buried. Visit Ein Karem and the Church of visitation.
