Day 1 Travel to the hotel in County Durham with a recommended stop in York.
Day 2 Time at leisure in Durham this morning. See the spectacular Cathedral and the beautifully restored Victorian indoor market. Continue to Shildon this afternoon and visit the National Railway Museum. The museum exhibits the history of rail travel from the 19th century to the present day.
Day 3 A full day excursion around the Durham Dales. Travel via Weardale to Stanhope for a visit to the Durham Dales Centre built within the walled gardens of Stanhope Castle. Proceed via Middleton-in-Teeside and Eggleston Village to Barnard Castle. Admire the Victorian and Georgian architecture in the delightful town centre and browse the shops in the specialist Antique Quarter. Continue via Staindrop to Bishop Auckland returning to the hotel in time for dinner.
Day 4 A full day visit to Beamish: the Living Museum of the North. The world famous open air museum tells the story of the north east of England in the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods. Enjoy unlimited rides on the restored trams and replica buses and see attractions including a working farm, an authentic town street, the colliery village and a traditional coal fired Fish & Chip shop!
Day 5 Homeward journey with a recommended stop in the seaside town of Whitby if time permits.
