Day 1 Travel to the East Midlands with an optional visit to Belton House en-route (additional cost applies).
Day 2 A scenic drive this morning through the county of Rutland for an included visit to Barnsdale Gardens. The individual gardens include a wonderful variety of designs, plant species and horticultural techniques. Time permitting, visit the small town of Oakham before arriving at Rutland Water reservoir for a relaxing cruise and a chance to view Rutland’s most famous landmark, Normanton Church.
Day 3 This morning is a visit to the International Bomber Command Centre. The interactive exhibition tells the stories of those who served, supported and suffered during the bombing campaigns of World War II. See the Walls of Names, Ribbon of Remembrance and Spire Memorial, the UK’s tallest war memorial and once the sighting point for crews based in the area. This visit is accompanied by a guide. This afternoon is at leisure in the historic city of Lincoln with its stunning Cathedral and pretty streets.
Day 4 A short hop this morning to Belvoir Castle. Dating back to the 11th century, it is the ancestral home of the Duke of Rutland, where the family have lived for almost a thousand years. It is said to be one of the finest examples of Regency architecture in the country. In addition, the gardens have undergone several major changes over the centuries, the latest being a restoration programme by the present Duchess to bring the lost plans of Capability Brown to fruition. Enjoy the Engine Yard Retail Village before departing for time at leisure in the attractive town of Stamford with its olde world charm and prosperity.
Day 5 Homeward journey.
