Day 1 Travel to the hotel on the outskirts of Nottingham.
Day 2 Following a leisurely morning, head to Cromford to board Birdswood, the historical narrow boat which is run entirely by volunteers. During the 2 hour cruise through the beautiful Derwent Valley, passengers will enjoy the bespoke commentary and a tour of the back cabin, if they wish. This afternoon, venture into the Peak District to spend some free time in the pretty town of Bakewell, famous for its puddings.
Day 3 This morning is to Bolsover Castle, the fantasy hilltop pleasure palace of a horse-mad Cavalier playboy. This Stuart mansion still impresses today with its aristocratic extravagance, lavishly decorated rooms, astonishing riding school and wonderfully recreated garden. This afternoon is to the picturesque and historic market town of Newark. The town is steeped in history and on a Wednesday, visitors can enjoy the well-known market which takes place on one of the finest Georgian squares in the UK.
Day 4 First stop today is Trentham Estate and their wonderful gardens, which have been transformed over the last 15 years into some of the finest in Britain. Marvel at the transformations led by multi-Chelsea gold winner Tom Stuart-Smith and renowned Dutch plantsman and Chelsea gold-medal winner, Piet Oudolf. Stroll through the shopping village before departing for a visit to the National Memorial Arboretum, one of the most popular of the Millennium projects. Covering 150 acres, this special place honours those who served and continue to serve our nation in many different ways.
Day 5 Homeward journey.
