Day 1 Travel to the hotel near Newcastle.
Day 2 Excursion to Alnwick Garden, which is the inspiration of the current Duchess of Northumberland. This afternoon, visit neighbouring Alnwick Castle, made famous for as a setting for the Blackadder series and Harry Potter films.
Day 3 Travel along George Wade's 'Military Road' tracing the path of Hadrian's Wall to Chesters Roman Fort, where we include admission. Part of Hadrian's Wall, Chesters is the best preserved Roman cavalry fort in Britain. On then to the market town of Hexham for free time, followed by a stop in Corbridge with its boutique shops and cafes.
Day 4 Follow the heritage coast with an excursion to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, via the historic port of Amble, 'the friendliest port' and the southern gateway to Northumberland's coastline and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. See the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory and the imposing Bamburgh Castle, entrance to which can be arranged at an additional cost. Timings on this day are tide dependent.
Day 5 Homeward journey with a recommended stop in the Cathedral City of Durham.
