West Country Rail and Sail

A midweek tour combining a relaxing cruise along the Grand Western Canal, a railway journey and time in the coastal resorts of Somerset and Devon.

Grand Western Canal • Horse Drawn Barge • Barnstaple • West Somerset Railway • Quince Honey Farm

Day 1 Travel to Devon with a recommended stop at Cheddar Gorge en route.

Day 2 A morning free in Tiverton before a gentle cruise along the Grand Western Canal by horse-drawn barge. During the journey you will hear some tales about the canal and often there is a minute's silence so you can experience the true peace and tranquillity of travelling by horse-drawn barge.

Day 3 Join the West Somerset Railway, Britain's longest steam railway, at Bishops Lydeard for a scenic ride through the Quantock Hills to the resort of Minehead. Time at leisure in Minehead before continuing your journey by coach along the Somerset and Devon coast or head across Exmoor to return to the hotel.

Day 4 A tour of the delightful villages of Devon. Head north to the market town of Barnstaple with an interesting stop at the Quince Honey Farm en route. Alternatively, journey to the south coast and the pretty seaside towns of Sidmouth and Seaton.

Day 5 Homeward journey.

All tours are tailored to your requirements and can be adapted for travel by coach and/or air as you prefer. Occasionally itineraries change. Please see our current brochure or contact us for the latest version.
