Scotland's Far North and Perth

Travel to the far north of Scotland and experience the dramatic coastline with visits to the remote Castle of Mey, beloved home of the Queen Mother, and John O'Groats together with a full day's visit to Orkney. Finally there is time at leisure in the heritage city of Perth.

Cairnwell Pass • The Castle of Mey • John O'Groats • Orkney • Skara Brae • Scapa Flow • Kirkwall

Day 1 Travel north for an overnight stop in the Scottish Borders area.

Day 2 Proceed north via Blairgowrie and the spectacular Cairnwell Pass to Braemar. A wonderfully scenic route continues via Tomintoul and Grantown on Spey before passing Inverness and continuing to Wick.

Day 3 Visit Her Majesty The Queen Mother's beloved Castle of Mey which has been kept just as it was when she was alive. Explore the gardens and enjoy the views over the Pentland Firth (closed end of July/beginning August). Remainder of the day at leisure in Wick.

Day 4 A full day excursion to Orkney including return ferry crossings from Gill’s Bay with Pentland Ferries. On arrival, meet your local guide who will ensure the highlights of this wonderful island are not missed. These may include Skara Brae, the Churchill Barriers, Scapa Flow, Ring of Brodgar, the Italian Chapel and Kirkwall's magnificent cathedral. Admission to both Skara Brae and the Italian Chapel have been included.

Day 5 Travel back through Scotland with a stop in the highland capital of Inverness and onwards to Perth.

Day 6 A day at leisure in Perth. See the striking St John’s Kirk, or visit Perth Black Watch Museum at Balhousie Castle which offers an insight into one of the British Army’s, if not the world’s, most famous fighting units. Garden lovers will enjoy National Trust-owned Branklyn Gardens (admissions not included).

Day 7 Homeward journey.
